Looking to sip limoncello, eat croissants on your terrace with picturesque views & eat your weight in delicious Italian food? Look no further for a full blown itinerary of our 4 day trip to the Almafi coast where we visited Positano, Praiano, Almafi & Ravello. I will share with you what to do, where to eat, costs to anticipate & photos to envision what your trip will look like!

Day 1 - Explore Positano

We decided to use Positano as our home base for the whole trip to the Almafi coast. We have found that when we have a consistent room we feel more at ease, and then we just hop on ferries, busses, trains, etc. to explore the surroundings.

The first morning in our Italian daydream, we woke up to a beautiful breakfast served on our terrace which literally was a postcard view. We splurged for this hotel at Alcione Residence since it was our honeymoon ($234/night with breakfast included). For breakfast they deliver to your room an assortment of breads, jams, croissants, coffees/lattes/tea, pancakes, sausage, yogurt, eggs & fruit.

We ate lunch at a local restaurant called Valle Dei Mulini where we got drinks (Peach Bellini & Manhattan Martini) & pizzas. The pizzas were seriously so delicious straight out of their wood oven! Mine was prosciutto, burrata & pistachios - YUM. Who knew pistachios on pizza could be delicious!? It is a thing over there. Chris’ pizza was spicy salami & he devoured it.

Next, time to walk off that pizza. Take a stroll through town center & go in and out of the shops as you make your way all the way down to the black sand beach.

At night we grabbed cocktails at il Tridente which is a rooftop terrace in Hotel Poseidon. Drinks here are cute & tasty but the view is the real winner! Definitely make sure to make reservations ahead of time to snag a spot. We sat outside in comfy chairs for aperitif hour, under the sunset sky & a floral lined terrace. We did stay for dinner, however, I wouldn't recommend or go back. Stick to their aperitif :)

Day 2 - Capri

We booked a roundtrip ferry to go to Capri for a day! Ticket prices range, but it is much cheaper than chartering a private boat & you can sit on the upper deck to enjoy the open air and views. Our tickets were $80 total for the trip & the ferry ride is 30 mins long from Positano to Capri.

I beg you, PLEASE make sure to get a lemon slushy here!!!! I still dream about it!!! There are lemon trees all over the island & their lemon products are so so fresh and yummy.

Next, you definitely should buy tickets ($2 a person) to enter the Garden of Augustus which overlooks the famous rock, Faraglioni (pictured above) and via Krupp. Unfortunately via Krupp was closed so we couldn’t go down to it, but you can see the windy road views from the garden (pictured below).

For lunch, we ate at this amazing little hole in the wall restaurant where this cute old man takes all of the orders and takes much pride in his restaurant, Ristorante Al Grottino. I got the seafood pasta ($25) that comes out fresh in the pan, Chris got the raft style gnocchi ($18), both pictured below. We also ordered a bottle of wine to enjoy at the table because bottles were only $20!

Next, buy a bus ticket ($2) to go up to Ana Capri. It’s a much more quiet town than Capri if you’re looking for a slower vibe. We didn’t end up taking the lift which goes even higher than Ana Capri, but many say to take the lift from Ana Capri to Monte Solaro so if you have time, maybe try that out!

We took a bus down from Ana Capri to Mariana Grande which is the port where the ferry comes and grabbed a seaside cocktail at Bar Corallo right by the water. We got a tequila sunrise, white Russian & aperitif snacks ($20 total).

Once back in Positano for the night, we had dinner plans for da Constantino. They have a shuttle that picks you up from your hotel & takes you home, for free! This dinner was amazing and I highly recommend. I debated repeating it because it was so yummy, affordable & authentic. We had a beautiful table inside with a view that is stellar for sunset or day light - the restaurant is perched super high up on the hill so the dramatic hillside views looking down are awesome. The restaurant is off the beaten path, not touristy at all, which allowed us to experience more authenticity and locals dining nearby our table. We enjoyed a Buffalo mozzarella prosciutto app, a bottle of sparkling white wine, I got the tailgate Bolognese and Chris got the steak with a side of French fries (lol per usual). Their desserts looked so amazing too but we were stuffed! (All of that for $80)

Day 3 - Travel down the Amalfi Coastline Towns

Buy a $10 unlimited bus pass that runs routes from Positano, Praiano, Amalfi & Ravello. If time allows we also have been recommended to stop at Fiordo di Furore and Groddo de Smeraldo. On the bus ride, be prepared for sharp, tight turns and lots of honking. I swear these roads should be one way, yet somehow the Italians make it into a two way street!

First stop off the bus, Praiano, a small quaint town with not too much to it. We strolled around and stopped for drinks at Cafe Mirandte with a stellar view overlooking the sea with Positano in the distance. I got the lemon mojito ($13) and it was heavenly and super refreshing. They even bring out snacks like bruschetta, olives & chips.

Next stop off of the bus, Almafi, a bustling town. The bus drops you off right by the beaches, with beautiful surrounding views and backdrops around it. There are tons of spots for lunch in the town center where you can snag an outdoor table and enjoy the people watching, live music & plethora of Italian food options. We stopped for gelato here at Mago del Gelateria. I got the coconut flavor and hubby got the Nutella + chocolate, and both ours were BOMB ($6 together).

Then, we hopped back on the bus & headed up into the clouds to Ravello. Ravello literally sits so high up on the cliffsides it’s unreal. We strolled around town through the little streets and then stumbled upon the Villa Cimbrone ($7 each to enter) which has a beautiful garden, in which we found a lawn to sit on with a stellar view overlooking the cliff side drop off. We got a lemon spritz & a strawberry spritz ($13 each) and they were honestly delicious. I mean look at this view!? We sat here for an hour just sipping, chatting & soaking up the breathtaking scenery. We regret not having time to stop at Villa Rufolo, so we def recommend for you to go!

Day 4 - Explore Positano, Again ;)

Positano, in our opinion, is the most romantic of the coastal towns. Therefore, we chose to spend another day here exploring our home base, just taking it easy. Slow days are something I am learning to get comfortable with ~ waking up and having zero plans is weird for me ~ however, today is a great example of how it was totally fantastic.

We woke up to a beautiful breakfast served on the terrace. Seriously y'all this didn't even feel like real life. Again, highly recommend this hotel!

Option today to do a limoncello and jam making class ($16 a person) ~ we didn't end up doing it, but sounds fun. Or, option to do a cooking class at Ristorante Max ~ it also looked fun when we walked by.

We decided to venture around and explore the second, less traveled beach.

We had lunch at Hotel Pupetto, on the terrace with stunning purple flowers all above you and the sea in front of you. Their wood oven pizza is so fresh and delicious. This pizza paired well with a sex on the beach drink! We sat here for an hour or two and just enjoyed the waves rolling into the beach with the beautiful floral terrace surrounding us.

Next, walk around shops for souvenirs. We collect ornaments everywhere we go, so we found a cute little lemon ornament to take home. Definitely don’t forget to buy some limoncello and lemon candles to take home! We got both, and even a few extra for our family.

In the afternoon, when the sun is making you warm, grab a spiked limoncello slushy drink from La Brezza by the sea and enjoy the drinks down on the sand. There is also a gelato spot right there by the ferry dock that was delicious, I recommend the Oreo & biscotto flavors.

Last but not least, let's talk about the sunsets in Positano over the sea. Wow. Absolutely beautiful with pink and orange hued skies. The hillside homes light up at dusk and shine bright over the town as the moon reflects over the water.

Southern Italy was a romantic, picturesque, lemon-plentiful, dream. I hope you get to wake up in your Italian dream soon :)
